hi, i'm joy 🌿
from a gym clipboard to nutrition coaching...
"you should try it."
my coworker said those words as she finished writing something on her clipboard at the counter.
I smiled, nodded, and walked back into the women's locker room.
I mean... I love working out, people ask me about my routine all the time, and I love helping people. why not?
a week later, I submitted my personal training application.
and just like that, I discovered something I didn't know I was looking for.
one of my favorite moments as a trainer happened when a client of mine, jenna, walked out of the gym after hitting her first personal record on the leg press.
"I didn't realize I could go heavier!" she said, beaming.
I high-fived her as she walked out, and I remember feeling just as proud as she was.
it wasn't really about the number on the machine.
it was about watching someone realize, "wait... I am capable of more than I thought."
those moments stuck with me.
then life took me in a different direction 😵💫
after graduating with my degree in marketing, I entered the corporate world.
for about five years, I worked across different industries, from beauty and software to finance. I managed calendars, organized events, commuted into the city, and learned a lot along the way.
but eventually, I felt burned out.
I'd drag myself into the office in the morning and count down until 5:00 PM.
I kept wondering:
Is this it?
there has to be more than this.
what am I actually passionate about?
eventually, I made the difficult decision to leave my corporate career.
I spent six months unemployed, which gave me something I hadn't had in a long time:
time to stop and really think about what I wanted my life to look like.
and I kept coming back to the same things.
health. fitness. wellness. helping people.
then I fell down the nutrition rabbit hole 🐰
I started watching creators make creative recipes and healthier substitutions, and suddenly my kitchen became my little nutrition laboratory.
"can I really use flaxseed instead of eggs?"
"what exactly is spirulina?"
"how can I make this recipe higher in protein?"
"wait... cottage cheese can go in THAT?"
I started experimenting.
protein brownies. lentil pasta. cottage-cheese mac and cheese. new recipes, new ingredients, and lots of googling.
the more I learned, the more fascinated I became by nutrition. and the more I realized just how confusing it can be...
there is SO much information out there.
one person says carbs are bad.
another says you need to cut out sugar.
someone else says you need to eat perfectly "clean."
and somehow, we're expected to figure out what actually works for our own lives.
I knew I wanted to be part of changing that.
finding my way back to wellness 🩻
I took another leap and began working at a wellness clinic that focused on chiropractic care and red light therapy.
being around clients again brought back that feeling I had experienced as a personal trainer:
fulfillment.
I loved seeing people make progress, feel better, and become more confident in themselves.
that's when I knew nutrition was the next chapter for me.
so I enrolled in Precision Nutrition's Coaching Program and began learning how to help people build sustainable habits, not simply follow another diet.
today, I'm a Certified Nutrition Coach through Precision Nutrition, and I'm building a coaching practice centered around something I believe strongly in:
you shouldn't have to sacrifice your life to be healthy 🌱
I don't believe you need to eat perfectly.
I don't believe you need to start over every Monday.
and I don't believe healthy eating should mean giving up the foods, restaurants, celebrations, and experiences you love.
I believe nutrition should fit into your life, not take over your life.
that's why I help women build realistic, sustainable nutrition habits that support more energy, confidence, and a healthier lifestyle, without restrictive dieting.
because your healthiest life should still be a life you enJOY living.
let's add a little more joy to your nutrition 🤍
if you're ready to build healthier habits that actually fit your life, I'd love to meet you 🫶
